No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar, formally joined the JD(U) on Sunday at the party headquarters in Patna, marking his entry into active politics. The induction took place around 1 pm in the presence of senior party leaders, including working national president Sanjay Kumar Jha and other functionaries.
The development comes shortly after Nitish Kumar filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections, signalling a potential transition in Bihar’s political landscape. Nishant’s entry into the party has sparked speculation about his possible future role within the organisation and the state government.
Before formally joining the JD(U), Nishant had held meetings with party MLAs, MLCs and other leaders at Jha’s residence in Patna. During those interactions, he discussed the party’s future strategy and possible responsibilities he could undertake as part of its organisational activities.
An engineering graduate in his late 40s, Nishant Kumar has largely remained away from active politics over the years. On the few occasions he has appeared in public, he has been known for maintaining a low profile and has spoken about the development initiatives undertaken by his father’s government in Bihar.
His entry into the JD(U) has also triggered speculation that he may be given a significant role in the state’s political setup. Some party leaders have suggested that he could be considered for the post of deputy chief minister in a new government that may be formed after Nitish Kumar steps down from the chief minister’s position.
However, the party leadership has not officially confirmed any such move. Leaders have indicated that Nishant Kumar will begin by taking on organisational responsibilities, while any decision regarding his role in government will be taken by the party leadership at a later stage.
